Organize blitz chess marathons with automatic round-robin, QR Code result entry and live standings. From registration to podium, all in one tool.
A blitz marathon is a tournament where all players face each other (complete round-robin). Ideal for groups of 40 to 50 players — and it can scale up to 80 — it's the perfect format for club nights, rapid events and social tournaments.
Imagine organizing a club night where every player faces every other player, results are entered directly from their phones, and the live standings are projected on a big screen. That's exactly what the Marathon module does.
ChessPairings.org handles everything automatically: round-robin pairings with balanced color alternation, printable QR badges, cross-device result sync and real-time standings with tiebreaks.
Five simple steps from setup to podium.
From the dashboard, create a new marathon by entering the name, venue, date and time control. Choose the BYE score (0, 0.5 or 1 point) and the result entry mode:
Add players from your club database with quick search. The system automatically assigns table numbers and categories based on rating. For an odd number of players, an automatic BYE is added.
With one click the system generates all rounds using the carousel round-robin algorithm: every player rotates each round, with balanced color alternation. Colors are fixed per board: odd boards = Side A plays White, even boards = Side A plays Black.
Each player receives a printable badge with a personal QR code. Scanning it from their phone opens a dedicated mobile page to enter the result with three large, touch-friendly buttons: Win, Draw, Loss. No login required. The system also supports forfeit results (1F-0F, 0F-1F, 0F-0F).
The standings update automatically in real time. You can share a public link to display them on a monitor or TV — it refreshes automatically every 10 seconds. The podium is highlighted with gold, silver and bronze. Available tiebreaks: Sonneborn-Berger and Number of Wins.
Everything you need to run a smooth blitz marathon.
Generate print-ready badges: A4-optimized grid with last name, first name, ELO, board and color for round one. Each badge includes a 5-step quick guide for the player and a unique QR code.
Results entered from one device appear instantly on others. The organizer sees an animated flash on updated rows and a toast notification. When all results for a round are in, the system automatically advances to the next round.
6-digit arbiter PIN to resolve disputes. Dedicated dashboard with pending dispute list and override buttons. Option to cancel an entire round and recalculate scores.
In addition to badge scanning, a camera scanner is available to quickly check a player's status. Useful for the arbiter during the tournament.
Automatic round-robin, QR Code and live standings. All free.
