Troubleshooting

First checks when something does not work

A safe diagnostic order that preserves data before you retry, restore, synchronize or report a problem.

Protect the current state

Stop repeating an action that changes data. If the app remains open, create a backup and note the tournament, page, round and selected row. Do not delete database files or uninstall the application as a first response.

Record the context

  • ChessPairings Desktop version shown in the left rail.
  • Windows version and whether the computer was offline.
  • Exact action immediately before the problem.
  • Full error text and a screenshot.
  • Whether the problem happens in one tournament or every tournament.

Retry once from a clean state

Close the current dialog, return to the dashboard and reopen the tournament. If the app closed unexpectedly, restart it and check whether an automatic diagnostic report path was shown. Retry the same action once only after confirming that the preceding data was saved.

Narrow the cause

Test a harmless equivalent in a small test tournament. If it works there, inspect the affected event for incomplete results, unavailable players, invalid line-ups or a synchronization conflict. If it fails everywhere, verify the app version and Store updates.

Recover rather than overwrite

Use Backup and restore when a known-good snapshot exists. Clone a TRF into a new tournament when the source file is the reliable record. Keep the original tournament until the recovered copy has been checked.

Ask for help

Send the diagnostic report, version and reproduction steps through the support page. Remove personal information that is not necessary to reproduce the problem.
